Having an interest in all things Design
What do I mean by this? Well, I illustrate, I design logos, I create websites, I produce the total range of printed collateral that most businesses need. Some would say a Jack of all trades, a master of none. I would argue I can offer a full range of services to a client who approaches me. If they ask for a logo, I can then offer business stationery, flyers, a website, email marketing and even a bit of SEO advice (We will come to this later). Having a full skill set, means I never have to send a client away to get another job done and invariably become sort of useful to them.

How to Survive as Freelance Graphic Designer - Helpful Tip!

Hello there ....

Hello There,
Graphic Designing Diva - Cassi Fox at your service.
I have recently been promoted to Social Media Manager at the company I work so I've decided to start a blog here geared towards my life as a Graphic Designer and Social Media Manager.

Here I will share things like resources, tips and trips and cool fonts etc that I come across on a weekly basis.

A Little about myself.

I have a degree in Art and Design from Lehman College in NYC that I obtained in 2002.  But with the recession and post World Trade Center financial crisis, I had to accept whatever was being offered in the way to employment.  So instead of becoming employed as a squeaky clean, fresh out of school, wet behind the ears Graphic Designer; I had to accept the first job offer I had out of school; working at a night club as a Promotions Manager.

That was 6 years of FUN! I literally got paid to party and made some invaluable contacts in the process.  Life really was a party.  But then after a fatal accident that happened in the premises the establishment was closed and the owner moved back to the Caribbean to open a club there.

So there I was back on the breadline.   2 months after the club's closing I landed a gig as a (get this) SOCIAL WORKER.  I had no prior experience but I did have a DEGREE and so I was hired to be a CASE MANAGER working with mentally and physically disabled children.  This job was very fulfilling.  I literally fell in love with my kids.   But they had to close my particular site after a year because of attendance issues.  *sigh*

I took a job as an ART THERAPIST that lasted all of 60 days because of the distance I had to travel and some other stuff that I won't get into.

So there I was yet again unemployed.  The bills were piling up so I took a job as a NANNY (hehe you read right). The children were excellent and it was a great learning experience but the mother was let go from her job after 3 months and that left nothing for me to do really so we parted ways.

It was then, that I decided to start using my Graphic Design skills for financial gain and believe you me its been a rocky road being a Freelancer on the mean streets of NY.  After 2 years of barely making it and literally being a STARVING ARTIST.  I moved back to my Native island nation of ANTIGUA because I needed a new start and sunny skies and beautiful beaches were definitely a plus for me.  After almost a year in the country Freelancing.  I landed my DREAM JOB at a cozy little Design and Marketing firm called the yuniq group and here I am today.
